Citizenship Amendment Act needed because there is no Hindu nation: Nitin Gadkari

To justify the Citizenship Amendment Act, BJP’s Minister Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari said the legislation was needed because there was no country in the whole world which is specially for Hindu on Monday.

Facing at a media event, Gadkari put his opinion and said,”There is no country in the world for Hindus. Earlier, Nepal was a Hindu nation but noe there is not a single Hindu nation. so where will Hindus, Sikhs go? For Muslims, there are several Muslim Nation where they can get citizenship. The opposition is trying to mislead people.” Gadkari denied the allegation that the BJP government was biased against Muslims. He said,”We are not against Muslims citizen of our nation. Some parties are creating fear among minorities I am assuring you that government is against discrimination politics.”

This a piece with the aggression that BJP has displayed on the issue with PM Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah leading the counter- attack. But, his argument projecting India as a motherland for Hindus could trigger another round of controversy as the BJP leadership has been accused of seeking to undermine Muslims through legislations like CAA.

The law allows a person to apply for citizenship via naturalisation if they need the qualifications pertaining to residency in India — that they be employed in central government service for the past 12 months, or spend 11 of the past 14 years in India. For this group, the residency requirement for naturalisation has been relaxed from 11 years to 5 years. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Wednesday decided to examine the constitutional validity of the Act but refused to stay its operation.

“Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians will be given citizenship and so there is no question of any papers under the NRC. They don’t need to provide any papers. We want to reach out to them and give citizenship,” “Let me clarify, no action under NRC will be taken based on religion. Anyone not found to be a citizen under NRC will go out. So it will be wrong to say that NRC is only for Muslims,” He said
